Getting StartedLink to Education Resources.

When you’re learning Vectorworks it’s important for you to understand the basic concepts. These resources have been structured to provide a logical training system for Vectorworks.

Tips

Almost every day I post a short tip about an aspect of Vectorworks. These are small tips that you can read in ten seconds. There are over 260 tips. This link will take you to all the tips.

Link to manuals page.Manuals

Each month I write a short manual (usually 40-60 pages). The topics range from beginner topics (Graphics, Worksheets, etc.) through to advanced topics (Lighting, Rendering, etc). There are over 80 manuals to choose from.

Interactive Workshops

Each month you can attend sessions related to the monthly manuals. These sessions are recorded.  There are nearly 100 sessions that you can watch.

Cadmovies

Each monthly manual has links to movies. This area has all the movies from these manuals. There are over 1100 movies here. This link will show you all the movies that relate to the monthly manuals.

Architect Special Interest Group

The Architect Special Interest group is an online session that allows you to bring your questions. These sessions allow you to drill down into the detail of a topic. There are over 65 sessions that you can watch.

These sessions are recorded and are available at this link.

Landmark Special Interest Group

Here you will find videos from the regular monthly sessions where we discuss Vectorworks Landmark. These sessions allow you to drill down into the detail of a topic. There are over 68 sessions that you can watch.

3D Modeling Special Interest Group

Here you will find videos from the regular monthly sessions where we discuss 3D Modeling. The topics we cover here depend on the people who attend. If you want to bring you a question along you are as welcome as anybody. These sessions allow you to drill down into the details of 3D modeling. There are over 12 sessions that you can watch.

These sessions are recorded and are available at this link.

  1. I have been using Vectorworks 2015 for a few weeks. Just trying to render a 3D view and it is quite pixelated. This occurs with whatever renderworks setting I use. Any thoughts?

  2. Hi
My name is William I am the Principal of a small Architectural Practice in the UK with a portfolio of Traditional Architectural Projects and Pre-Fabricated Architectural Projects.

We are committed users of Vectorworks 2015. However, we are finding some level of limitation in Vectorworks being able to undertake precisely what we need it to do for us. We are aware of the FRAME Facility but that does not accommodate our specific requirements in relation to what we have set out below.

We have received an opportunity from two of our Off-Site Manufacturing Clients to undertake both architectural design and fabrication design and, production drawing information for a number of projects. We are very keen to continue with this opportunity but we recognise we could do with some help in customising / making our Vectorworks 2015 do what we need it to do.

With regard to the Pre-Fabricated Architecture we are seeking to take the projects from architectural detail design through to fabrication detail design for manufacturing purposes. For now, the essence of the Pre-Fabricated System is Structural Insulated Panels (SIPS) which is a Kingspan TEC System. For this we need to be able to produce the following detail and production drawing information with schedules.

 To show each individual PANELS with SIMILAR SIZES and with VARIOUS SIZES, POSTS with Similar and Various Sizes, END POSTS, SOLE PLATES, HEADS PLATES etc., all with Similar and Various Sizes. We then need to incorporate these physical components with the following information within a Schedule which will include the following :

    Prefabricated Cuts & Information
ID Label Bottom Plates & Top Plates
    Width Fillets
    Height Lintols
    Length Cill Plate
    Thickness Posts
    Component Image
    Volume Insulated Panel
    Etc. Etc. SIPS Panels
    Ability for Colour Production
    Wallboard – OSB

    Additionally
 We need to be able to produce a CUTTING LIST Schedule which include the above
 We need to produce a 3D Model of the panels and components within the Volumetric Units which are of the same and different sizes.

The question presented here then is this.
    A. What would be the best approach / methodology for carrying out the tasks as set out above.
    B. Is there a useful PLUGIN available / on the market to assist Vectorworks achieve our specific objective.
    C. Are we asking the impossible?

Thank you for any assistance you may be able to provide.
    Best Regards
    William
