Vectorworks Tip 265 – Reshape Tool – Moving Vertices

265 - ReshapeBeginner Tip – The first mode on the Tool bar allows you to move a vertex. You would use
this if you wanted to change just one part of a polygon or polyline. This can be used on more than just polygons and polylines, it can be used on all polyline based objects (like roofs, spaces, hardscapes, landscape areas, parking areas, floors, slabs, etc.).

Vectorworks Tip #237- Attribute palette – Creating a Tile

image081Tiles are substantially easier to create than hatches. Where a hatch uses repeatable lines, a tile uses a repeatable set of lines, polygons, circles, rectangles, etc. This means that instead of trying to figure out how the lines repeat you can just draw what you want. Because tiles contain objects like rectangles, circles etc., you can also add colors to your tiles, making them extremely graphic.

You create a new tile by using the Resource Browser. Right-click in the Resource Browser, choose New Resource…, name the tile and then draw the repeating tile passion that you require.

Vectorworks Tip #233 – Attribute Palette – Modifying the Local Mapping of a Tile

image073There are times where you want to change the rotation or the scale of your tile, but just for one object. In this situation you can use the attributes palette to change the local mapping of the tile assigned to the object. You can also use the attribute mapping tool to change the local mapping of a tile on an object.

Vectorworks Tip #195 – Basic Tools – Attributes Palette

image016The Attributes Palette is used to control the graphic style of your objects. So if you want to assign a thicker line weight, a different color line, a fill pattern, gradient, etc. then use this palette. If you are using wall styles, the Attributes Palette cannot be used to change the attributes of the wall, you have to edit the wall style to do that.

Vectorworks Tip #191 – Basic Tools – Clip Surface

image011Like the Add Surface command, you can access this from the Modify menu or from the contextual menu. As with the Add Surface command, I prefer to access this from the contextual menu (right-click). Use this command to subtract a shape from the base shape. With this command, the stacking order is important. If you get the stacking order wrong you will be clipping the wrong object.
