Creating Text – How to place text.
In Vectorworks 2013 there is now a new annotation object call the hyperlink. This hyperlink allows you to create links inside your Vectorworks documents that will export to PDF files. The hyperlinks can create internal links, that is links inside the document, all they can create external links to documents, folders, or websites.
This is the movie from the second session Landmark Special Interest Group, August 2012. We are looking at starting a template file and simple drawing techniques.
This is the movie from the first session Landmark Special Interest Group, August 2012. We are looking at starting a project from the beginning, looking at how to get started.
Text Styles. Most drawings require text so it’s important that you are able to create and edit text easily. Creating text is reasonably straightforward. There is only one tool for creating and editing text, but there are a few options.
I’ve just had a question from one of my clients. He wants to create superscript characters on his Macintosh, the little squared and cubed symbols we add instead of writing sq.ft, or sq.m.
There are several annotation tools in Vectorworks. There are the fundamental tools like the text tool, dimensions, and so on. But there are several other tools that you may not use, because you do not know they are there. That’s what this manual is about.
Using More Than One Legend. Now you can set up as many Keynote Legends as you want, but each legend has to have a separate name.
Keynotes. There is another powerful way to use the callout with text from a database. You can tell Vectorworks to place a keynote. A keynote is where you repeat the same key (W1) and have a block of notes on the draw that have the detailed expansion of the W1 note. This allows you to have several notes in a block and then have many instances of the keynotes on the drawing.
Adding More Notes to The Note Database. Normally, you will have some notes that you have used before. These might be notes in a word processor, or they might be notes form other Vectorworks drawings. You can use these notes to fill in your note database. This can be a really quick way to get the notes into your database.
Adding Sections and Notes. If you use the note database, you could easily have hundreds of notes in the database. This makes it hard to find the notes you want. The answer is to divide your note database into sections. you could then have all the notes that relate to a section of work, or a building element together, making it easier to find the notes you want.
Editing a Callout.
You may not want to upgrade, you may not be able to afford to upgrade, but I still think you should read about what is new in Vectorworks 2011. There are some new ways what will change the way you think about creating your models.
Assigning a Text Style to Other Objects. Many of the annotation objects can accept text styles. You drag and drop the text style onto the object, and the text style is assigned to an object. Be careful with this, not all object accept text styles, nor use all the settings.
Assigning a Text Style to a Dimension Standard. You can link a text style to a dimension standard. This means that you can have control over the text size and font for all the dimensions in the drawing. If you want different dimensions to have different sizes for the text, create different dimension standards.
Changing The Text Style. After you have created a block of text, you can change the text style.
Assigning a Text Style to a Text Object. There are a few ways to assign the text style to your text. You can assign the text before you create the text (default text style), or you can assign the text style after you have created the text.
Dim Text Tools in Vectorworks Australia and New Zealand.
With out text and dimensions, your drawings are pretty sad. Annotation is a fundamental part of drawing. Annotation is more than just putting text and dimensions on the drawing, although I will be covering this to make sure you are doing it correctly, there are note tools, tools to store a database of notes and tools for labeling.
Find and replace text.
