Using symbols to speed up the detail drawings.
I read of this trick the other day on the Vectorworks Community Board. It’s a way of renumbering all your symbols using a worksheet.
Creating an Asset Database (Facilities Management)
In this workshop we will learn how to make objects into symbols. Then we will learn how you can attach information to the objects.
Making the report is straight forward. VectorWorks has a command that will do a lot of the work for you. After we have made the report, we can sort the report by room, by date, by type and so on.
Add more symbols to the plan.
assigning the information to more symbols.
Entering the information to the object.
Linking Text to Record. This will connect the database to the symbol.
Attaching the Database to the Symbol. We have made the database, and we have made the symbol, but they are not connected. The next step is to connect the two parts together.
Now we have our record format we can attach it to objects. Usually you attach record formats to symbols, but it doesn’t have to be a symbol. You can attach a record format to any object.
How to make a dishwasher symbol from an image, using image props.
Making Symbols for Architects and Interior Designers. Often Architects and interior designers want to have special symbols for furniture or fittings they want in the project. They want the 2D plan to be simple and graphically clear, but they want the 3D model to be complex and detailed.
This podcast will show you how to make a 2D/3D Symbol.
I saw someone on the Vectorworks tech forum asking about moving a window (or door) in a wall. There are a few ways to do this, and this podcast shows you a couple of options. This podcast will be extended in my user group newsletter.
This podcast shows you how to move symbols in a wall, how to move them to a known place and how to place the symbols in a wall accurately.
When you create a symbol you get an options dialog where you can set options on how the symbol will be inserted.
A symbol is a relatively small repeatable element. Any object can be saved as a symbol. Common uses for symbols would be standard windows and doors, electrical symbols, anything that you want to use several times. Symbols will be the main tool for making your library, some of the VectorWorks tools use symbols as the information that they are placing, and for most of the things that you want to make in your library, symbols will be way you make them.
