Back to basics with this session. I often use a lot of 3D modelling techniques because I find them very efficient when it comes to creating my drawings. But sometimes I think that beginners get lost with my 3D modelling. In this session I decided to go back to basics and show why I think it’s important to use 3D modelling.
Introduction to BIM – BIM (Building Information Modeling) is not just about drawings, it is about the way you create your design. BIM is not so much about the model as it is about the activity of Building Information Modeling (creating the 3D, creating information and making that information available to others).
A client asked me if it was possible to create a barn roof that had more than one slope. It’s possible, and there is more than one way to achieve it.
Part of this process uses the old Fit Walls to Roof… command which has now been renamed Fit Walls to Objects…
I rarely use the attic settings on the roof object. Mainly because I cannot think of a good use for them. However, one of my subscribers is just pointed out that the attic settings are extremely useful for creating the walls of the right height inside the roof.
In the session had only one attendee. Lucky for him, he was able to have one-on-one training as part of his subscription. His main area of problem was roofing. So in this session we looked at his roof challenges and how we can cope with them in Vectorworks.
Fit Walls to Roof – This is how you make the walls follow the shape of the roof. You can use this with any 3D geometry.
Cutting Out Part Of The Roof – You can cut out part of the roof with this technique.
Making A Cut-out In A Roof – This is a way to make a hole or cut out in the roof.
Stack Layers View – To see the roof and the walls together, use the Stack Layers view.
Making a Mono-Pitch Roof – Change the standard Vectorworks roof in to a mono-pitch roof.
Making a Gable Roof – The standard roof in Vectorworks is a hip roof. You can change this to a gable end.
Creating A Roof From Walls – An easy way to create the roof is to use the walls as the outline.
Simple Roof – You can create a roof from the walls. the roof may need some editing to get what you want.
