This exercise is to show you how to use the horizontal and vertical divisions to create an outcome such as, in this case, a wine rack.
The cabinet 3D object is often referred to as the Custom Cabinet. It uses a similar principle to the classic cabinet, but, instead of calling the divisions horizontal and vertical, they are known as boxes (horizontal) and columns (vertical).
InteriorCAD is a powerful addition to Vectorworks; but, if you do not understand the basic concepts, you could find the dialog boxes confusing.
In order to tell InteriorCAD where to put drawers and doors, you need to divide up the cabinet into what are called divisions. With the classic cabinet there are horizontal and vertical divisions, which you control by selecting an icon in the dialog box.
InteriorCAD XS is a plug-in for Vectorworks. In fact, it is a suite of plug-in tools. It does not come as a standard installation; it is something that you have to purchase in addition to Vectorworks.
Vectorworks 2017 has a new Custom Cabinet tool that is a derivative of InteriorCAD. Interior CAD comes in two suites: InteriorCAD XS, which we will be looking at, and the fuller, more complex version for kitchen manufacturing, which is called InteriorCAD. In this manual, we will only be looking at InteriorCAD XS.
Vectorworks comes with basic cabinets and the Custom Cabinet tool mentioned above. These are often enough for some designers. Some designers want to have more flexibility in their ability to design cabinetry. In this case, InteriorCAD XS is a good solution.
Next week, we have sessions that focus on using InteriorCAD XS. These sessions will focus on an introduction to using it rather than focusing on the advanced features. When you learn the basics really well, the advanced features are easy to deal with.
In order to understand how InteriorCAD XS has been designed, we will be looking at creating a few units, as shown in the sketch.
The sessions are starting next week; so, if you are a subscriber, make sure you book now!
In this manual we looked at interior design, and while we are the kitchen as the basis of our design, this manual is about more than just kitchen design.
It is tempting to think that if we covered the design of the kitchen, that would be enough. But also like to show you how you can use Vectorworks for creating more of an interior design that showed details of the kitchen, how the kitchen connects to other rooms, demolition, and furniture. We would also like to use the three-dimensional models of our furniture to create the drawings.
Vectorworks comes with several libraries full of furniture and electrical appliances. But sometimes you want to have something which is more specific to the country you are from. I have created some symbols that match the F&P objects like dishwashers, stoves, ovens, and range hoods.
