In this session, we looked at how to use a Heliodon and the Renderworks Camera, how to get the most out of your SmartCursor and Snapping features, how to change your default colors in the Attributes palette, as well as discussing some advanced Snapping techniques and the benefits of using Master Snaps.
- 00:30 We began by adding a Heliodon to our file before taking a look at the Renderworks Camera. We experimented with changing the values for the Camera Height and the Look To Height. What view do you get if they’re the same? What view do you get if they’re different? Which values will give you the view that you’re looking for? If you’ve done photography, many of the set-up options will be familiar to you. One thing to look out for is that changing the 3D view of your model while your camera is activated will change your camera settings. The Visualization palette allows you to control lights and cameras that you create. We discussed the difference between Saved Views and Camera views and then created a viewport from our Camera view. The Camera disappears from the Visualization palette when you do this—it gets bound up in the viewport. Although the Camera is part of the viewport, you can still use it to control the view in your viewport.
- 17:00 After modifying a few of the options in our SmartCursor Settings, we looked at various Snapping features. First, we used Snap to Grid and Snap to Object—including the quick way to open up and adjust the SmartCursor settings. When using Snap to Object, is having all the object snaps turned on much different from having only a few of them turned on? For example, are there times when you’d only want to turn on the End Point snap or the Nearest Point on Edge snap? Next, we looked at Snap to Angle. Don’t forget that you can include any angle increment that you want in the settings! We finished by looking at the Smart Point feature. Snap to Object, Snap to Angle, Snap to Intersection, and Smart Points are the Snapping features that I always have turned on while I’m working in a file.
- 34:26 Next, we covered a problem with changing the default color of lines. Make sure that you don’t have anything selected and then change the colors in your Attributes palette to what you want. If you mess up, you can click the Use Default Attributes button on the Attributes palette. You may need to use the Remove by Class Settings button.
- 39:36 We finished the session by covering a few advanced techniques for snaps. When you’re doing your dimensions, one trick is just to have End Points and Master Snap Points turned in the Snap to Object options. We discussed the usefulness of Master Snap Points. Having Master Snaps set up on the structural part of you wall styles can be very useful! We went over how to turn them on in the Wall Preferences dialog box. Next, we walked through setting up a Custom Tool Attribute for your SmartCursor settings to turn your custom Snapping options on and off with ease!
